Central Boulevard School's annual STEAM Night on Mar. 20 was a spectacular showcase of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics, bringing together students, families and educators for an evening of interactive learning and fun.
One of the highlights of the evening was the Star Lab, Bethpage's very own planetarium, which was set up in the gym. Students and family members were thrilled to take a virtual tour of the solar system, learning about planets, stars, and upcoming celestial events. The immersive experience captivated audiences of all ages, making space exploration an exciting reality for many young learners.
Bethpage High School students played a pivotal role in the event by challenging attendees with engaging math tasks, puzzles, and challenges. One particularly popular activity involved number cards, where high school student volunteers amazed participants by using binary numbers to deduce their birthdays. This mathematical magic trick not only entertained but also demonstrated the practical applications of number theory in an engaging way.
The Bee-Bots were another major attraction of the night, with younger students enthusiastically practicing coding by programming these friendly robots to navigate simple mazes. This hands-on activity introduced students to fundamental coding concepts in an accessible and enjoyable manner.
Creativity flourished in the DIY Ocean Drums room, where students crafted their own percussion instruments under the guidance of Ms. Stewart. The room was filled with the rhythmic beats of the handmade drums as students explored the intersection of art and music.
Science met culinary delight in the Ice Cream station, where students had the chance to make their own vanilla ice cream. This fun and tasty experiment allowed participants to see science in action, learning about the properties of freezing and mixing while enjoying their delicious creations.
CBS STEAM Night was a true celebration of curiosity, creativity, and community. The excitement and joy were evident in the smiles on students' faces as they explored and engaged in various activities.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the teachers, Mr. Pollatos, Mr. Titolo, and the high school students who played an integral role in making this night so memorable. Their dedication and enthusiasm were key to creating such an enriching experience for our CBS community.
