On Saturday, April 13, 2024, participating students in Grades 4 & 5 through the district's 21st Century Scholars Program joined Mr. Pollatos and Mr. Choi and visited Sterling UG. Located in nearby Hicksville, Sterling UG provided the opportunity for students to learn about their new assistive health care robot and participate in a STEM activity/challenge.
Students learned that Sterling UG's assistive health care robot took 25 months to build and saw a firsthand demonstration of the robot, which took the students on the process from a patient checking into a health care facility to assisting a patient on how to take their vitals to transcribing a conversation between a patient and the doctor.
Thereafter, students were tasked with building a robot using kits as well as describing what "problem" their robot aimed to solve.
Special thanks to Dr. Prasad, Dr. Power, and Professor Subash for organizing this opportunity for Bethpage Schools students.
