2024-25 BHS Ethics Team

The 16th annual Long Island High School Ethics Bowl took place at Hofstra University last month. An Ethics Bowl is a collaborative yet competitive event, in which two teams are presented with a series of wide-ranging ethical dilemmas and are asked to analyze them; they are then judged on the basis of their analyses. Twenty-six teams from 14 different Long Island high schools matched wits over ethical cases whose topics included the decision to vote for third party candidates, the ethical consequences of relationships with AI generated companions, and whether countries with a history of human rights abuses should be allowed to host international sporting events.

Bethpage High School's team of Matthew Cusumano, Devaanshi Kuwatra, Sara Bashker, and Grace Cho took 2nd place while the team of Alex Kapothanasi, Sahana Passaro, Rebecca Ahmad, Ibrahim Rana, and Saveet Gupte took fifth place.

Congratulations to all of the participating students on a successful showing at the Ethics Bowl!
