Sahana Passaro and Daniella Russo were recently recognized as second and third-place winners of the Secondary School Poetry and Arts Contest: Gara di Poesia e Gara di Canto. The contest is run annually by the Long Island Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Italian. Students were invited in person to Hofstra University to perform in front of a panel of judges on Friday, May 3, 2024.
Ms. Calio encouraged the students to participate, while Ms. Sagarese accompanied the students on the day of the competition. For the opera/classical category, Sahana sang “Amarilli, mia bella” by Giulio Caccini. Daniella recited the poem “La prima rosa” by Ada Negri.
